How to create a staging site
- Open your Pressy and go to Staging in the sidebar.
- Press Create staging site.
- Choose the staging address, or accept the one offered.
- Wait a few minutes.
Staging does not count towards your plan and is not billed.
Working on the copy
Open the staging address and sign in to its WordPress exactly as you would the live site. Same content, same plugins, same theme.
To change PHP, cron or databases on the copy rather than on live, use the environment switcher: it moves the whole dashboard into staging, and Billing, Domains and Plan lock while you are there because they belong to the real Pressy.
Putting your changes live
- Go back to Staging.
- Press Push to live.
- Type your subdomain to confirm.
The push replaces live — files and database — with the staging copy, after taking a backup of live first. If that backup fails, the push is abandoned and live is untouched.
Anything added to live since your last sync is lost: orders, form entries, comments, uploads. Check the line before you push — if the copies were last identical three weeks ago, that is three weeks of live activity about to be replaced.
Starting again from today's live site
Press Sync from live. Everything on staging is replaced with a fresh copy of live, and any work on staging is lost. Live is not touched.
Before you start
The staging address is publicly reachable and search engines can find it. Anyone who knows the address can open it. Do not put anything on staging you would not publish.
Deleting it
Press Delete. The copy and everything on it goes, your live site is unaffected, and you can create a fresh copy at any time.
