How to restore a backup

1. Open your Pressy and go to Backups in the sidebar.
2. Find the row from before things went wrong. Each shows the date and time in your own timezone.
3. Press Restore.
4. Type restore to confirm.
5. Wait. The screen shows progress and tells you when it is done.

What a restore does

• Puts back your files and your database together, as one unit, exactly as they were at that moment.
• Does not touch your domain, your DNS, or your HTTPS certificate. The site's address does not move and nothing needs reconnecting afterwards.

Anything added since that backup is gone — orders, form entries, comments, uploads, posts. Restoring to last Tuesday means the site is last Tuesday's.

If the site is a shop, check what orders came in since that point before you restore, so you know what you are about to lose.

Restores cost nothing

They are free and unlimited. There is no per-restore charge and no monthly allowance, because a backup you hesitate to use is not a backup.

Take a copy of "now" first

If you are restoring to undo a change but might want something from the current state:

1. Press Download a copy and wait for the download.
2. Then restore.

You end up with both.

Restoring only one file

There is no file-level or table-level restore — a backup goes back whole. To get one file out of an older state:

1. Press Download a copy for a copy of the current site.
2. Restore the older backup.
3. Take the file you needed from the download, and upload it back from the Files screen (how) or over FTP.

When to write to us

Write to us if a restore fails, or if a backup in the list will not restore at all. Include the date of the row you were trying.
