How to take a backup

1. Open your Pressy and go to Backups in the sidebar.
2. Press Back up now.
3. Wait a few minutes. The new row appears at the top of the list when it is finished.

Manual backups are capped at one an hour.

When to take one

• Before updating a plugin that runs your shop, forms or bookings.
• Before changing or updating a theme.
• Before editing wp-config.php or .htaccess.
• Before a bulk edit, an import, or a search-and-replace.
• Before letting anyone else into the site.

What you already get without asking

• A backup every week, kept 30 days.
• A backup before every WordPress core update.
• A backup of live before a staging push, and if that backup fails the push is abandoned rather than run without a net.

So the manual button is for the changes you make, in between.

Getting your own copy

Download a copy gives you a .tar.gz of files and database together, downloaded to your computer.

That is your site as it is right now, not one of the restore points in the list. Take one before you cancel a Pressy, and before any change big enough that you would want a copy outside our systems.
