Moving an existing site

Move your WordPress site with help along the way

Migration requests are paused while the queue is closed. You can still ask whether your site fits, and everything below is how a move works when the queue is open. We cannot accept or schedule a move yet.

Requests are paused

Nobody is free to run a move by hand right now, so we are not taking requests. Ask about fit if you like, and do not buy hosting for a move we cannot yet schedule. From the first minute every Pressy still gives you SFTP, database access and a staging site to land a copy on yourself.

Check the fit

The service suits one WordPress site at a time: a business site, a publication, a project that has to stay up. A freelancer brings selected client sites the same way, one Pressy each.

Useful to tell us

  • Where the site is now and how you sign in there: the host, not the password
  • Roughly how big it is, or that you do not know
  • Whether it takes orders, bookings, memberships or comments
  • Whether the domain and email stay where they are

Never send passwords or backup links in the enquiry. After you buy hosting, the request from your Pressy's dashboard asks for a login or a backup link, stored encrypted; a person reviews that request before accepting it, and we destroy the details when the move ends.

Know what you are committing to

  1. Hosting comes first. A Pressy is bought and running before any staff work starts, and the request is made from its dashboard.
  2. A request is reviewed before it is accepted. An enquiry or a request reserves no slot and is not a booking.
  3. When requests reopen we will state what a standard move includes and how larger sites are assessed.
  4. A declined request does not cancel your hosting. The 30-day refund window in the terms is separate and stays yours to use.

Terms of Service

Copy, review, push, switch

Four separate steps, kept apart so you decide when each one happens.

  1. 01

We copy the source into staging

Your site is copied into your Pressy's staging address. Your current host keeps serving throughout.

  2. 02

    You review the copy

Walk through pages, media, sign-in, forms and links at the staging address. A preview shows the copy; it does not prove live email, payments, integrations or DNS.

  3. 03

    You push it live

From the Staging screen, with a backup of the live Pressy taken first. Pushing replaces this Pressy's live content, so anyone already reaching the Pressy sees the moved site at once. Visitors reach your old host only while your domain points there.

  4. 04

You point your domain at it

Change the web records at your registrar, or connect a domain bought here, while your mail records stay as they are. Keep the old host until you have checked the switched site.

What needs separate attention

  • Email hosting. We do not host mail; your mailboxes stay with their provider and their DNS records are left alone.

  • Domain registration and transfer. Moving hosting does not move the domain. Connecting a domain you own is free; transferring or buying one is a separate purchase.

  • Sites that take orders, bookings, memberships or comments. A copy is a moment in time, so we agree a final copy and a switch plan with you rather than promising continuous synchronisation.

Before you switch

  • The home page and your key pages load
  • You can sign in to WordPress
  • Forms send and images show
  • Redirects and permalinks behave
  • Integrations, payments and email are tested on the live address, not the preview

Two ways to start

Ask about fit if you like. If you already have a Pressy, its Migration screen shows the same paused notice until the queue reopens.
